Carolina's Success Story
My journey to better health…
I knew at ten years of age that I needed to go on a diet. I had heard from my mom time and time again that she could not buy regular clothes for me at the department store. The Husky department was where mom shopped for me. I decided to go on my first “diet” at ten years of age by ordering a paperback titled “How to help your child lose weight!” My mom did not read English so it was up to me to read the book and understand how to help me lose the weight that prevented me from being a normal weight like the rest of my friends. Those early experiences shaped my understanding of weight problems and weight management. The lack of guidance left me to the mercy of popular magazine articles on losing weight and the latest fad diet.
My weight was up and down for the next 30 years with big losses and even bigger gains. There was no balance and by my late 30’s I had to take blood pressure medicine because of my family’s tendency to have heart problems. My dad had a heart attack at the age of 45 so at the age of 44, I decided to get my act together.
I had been a member of Piranha Fitness Studio for a year, participating in their Piranha and Strike classes. I decided to participate in the New Year New You Challenge because it was the next logical step for my health.
The introduction to the challenge was great. We had body measurements and before photos taken on that day. I learned that everyone has certain deficiencies in hormones in their bodies cause a disruption in weight loss. I also learned to pay attention to the dietary needs of my body and fuel in for maximum burn.
With the constant monitoring of my diet and exercise using the Piranha Nutritional logbook, I knew what was going into my body. I had the knowledge to change and monitor results in body fat changes.
A regular exercise habit combined with better eating habits of less processed foods and more natural uncomplicated fresh, organic vegetables, fruits and meats have made a difference on how I feel and with my overall health. I have decreased my blood pressure medications and take less prescribed medicine than twenty years ago. It has not always been easy but you need to surround yourself with people that have the same health goals and can help you with any questions on nutrition and exercise you may have.
I am in a better place now than I was twenty years ago and I plan to continue with a healthy lifestyle with the promise of not ever using the word “diet” again.
Thank you, Piranha staff!
