Piranha Fitness Zumba instructor, Tatiana Lacey, gardens with her husband, David, to save money and eat healthier. In this post, she shares her love for gardening.
My husband is a horticulture minor at Texas A&M, which has definitely made an impact on his life and mine. We have a garden at our house, and it has helped us both save money and eat healthier. But there are many other reasons that I love gardening.
- Gardening is free therapy. It teaches you to work for a result, it develops your patience, and it connects you with nature! I see all of those things when I look at David working in our garden. He’s so peaceful, careful and patient with himself and nature.
- Gardening saves you money. Vegetables are not too expensive, but if you buy enough fresh produce, it can add up. Unfortunately, people have to throw away vegetables more often than not when they don’t use them quickly enough. Why not garden those vegetables and save yourself some money?
- Gardening gives you a sense of accomplishment. It is hard for me to describe this in words, you will have to discover it for yourself. When your garden produces good, healthy carrots, limes and spices, it is one of the most exciting feelings in the world! It is also humbling because all the work and time you put into it blossomed.
I recommend that you first educate yourself on gardening, then try it out. Do not be afraid to mess up! Nature has its own cycles and a graceful way of letting us know when things are supposed to happen. Eating clean and healthy IS possible, and starting your own garden is a great way to get in touch with nature!
