A post from the blog series, “Improventure, an Adventure on Improving Yourself” by Giuliana Alcala.
In the past two years, I have had several different living situations. Now, I have finally moved into my own one bedroom apartment, and I could not be happier. I did not realize how much I missed my own things. As I started unpacking things I had not seen in two years, I became emotional. It felt so good to use my own dishes, hang my own pictures on the wall, and decorate things the way I wanted to.
Hello wine glasses! Where have you been all my life??
This blog entry is about the importance of personalizing your own space, whether it is your bedroom, house or office. I’ve found having my own space makes me excited to start my day and keeps me productive throughout the day and evening.
Colors influence your mood and focus. Orange expands your thinking by reducing self-consciousness. It is the color of laughter and celebration. Deep blue encourages efficiency while light blue encourages peace. Red will toughen you and enhance fearlessness. And of course yellow will brighten your day and increase your focus.

Don’t let those vacation pictures stay stuck in your camera or computer. Visit Pinterest or just Google creative ways to show off postcards or pictures from past trips.
Take plain accessories like jars or vases and add your flavor. Wrap a vase with ribbon or glue gemstones on your office penholder. There is nothing little nick-knacks and hot glue can’t do to make something your own.
Clutter can cause feelings of anxiety and stress. Looking for keys or important papers can cost you precious time. Pretty frames or artistic pieces can’t be displayed if there isn’t enough counter or desk space. Sort through your things and get rid of anything you don’t need.
It has been shown that personal satisfaction and productivity can be positively affected by well-designed illumination. Find some funky lamps or window decorations and embrace the light in your space.
Pinterest has a ton of fun ideas for personalizing any room, house, or office. Being surrounded by things that represent your personality and your creativity can influence your mood each day and can even affect your productivity.
